R-, another potter at my studio, once taught pottery classes and glaze chemistry classes at the college level. She has written several books, and even invented a clay called "paper clay."

She offered to "tutor" me in basic glaze chemistry, so I have finally set up tutoring sessions to start in July. This will be my birthday present to myself (I am paying her a sizable hourly rate!) But I feel like expertise of an older, experienced, and gracious potter is something worth paying money for. And it will be one-on-one... better than class!

I am thrilled beyond measure. Can't wait for July.
