Just have a minute here to email - this email will be the less
organized of them all i'm sure, i'm typing super fast. Jamie and I
are safe in Mumbai, actually staying in Colaba, which is the
neighborhood where the terrorist attacks were (don't ask me why we are
staying here but it is actually less scary this way, gotta be here to
understand). Our hotel is half a block from the infamous Taj Mahal
Hotel, but the police have the entrance side streets blocked off and
secured. We could see it today from the boat launch to Elephanta
Island, where lots of people were around to take photos and news
broadcasters were also there. Crazy to hear people's stories of the
day it happened - this place is nuts already without any bombs.
We attempted to book train tix to Ahmedebad, but since Ann hadn't
arrived (and therefore we didnt' have her passport in hand to
present), we could not book the tix, (and trains were almost full for
tomorrow) - so we opted to take a flight tomorrow to Jamnagar in
Gujarat, which is actually quite convenient for our itinerary and will
allow us to avoid 10 hrs on train + 10+ hrs on bus.
Gotta run. This place is the craziest place on earth, - well, besides
Delhi, which i remember hating even more last trip. But nuts.
Crumbling and dirty and packed and insanely noisy, a hundred cab horns
blowing in my ears right now and protesters outside chanting Change
Now - But somehow i remain SO ECSTATIC to be back in India... can't
WAIT to make it out to beloved Gujarat.
Signs outside that say Together We Will Vanquish the Terror. Love
the choice of english words here, reflects more British influence
obviously
Ok gotta go attempt to collect Ann at the airport now...
reporting live this is mandy from Mumbai.
love and peace to you.
